Sperm Banks are Running Low so Women are Taking to Facebook for Donors

According to this New York Times article, sperm banks are running low on, and exhausting their current, donors.

Why? Well an increase in demand for one.

There have always been infertile straight couples in need of donor sperm, but with the legalization of gay marriage and the rise of elective single motherhood, the market has expanded over the last decade.

Combine that with, ya know, a global pandemic.

...the coronavirus changed things. Existing donors were scared to go in. New donor sign-ups stopped for months during lockdown and never really bounced back at some banks. Several banks said that they had a lot of old frozen sperm in storage, but that it could last only so long.

Top that with the strict criteria donors must meet and regulations sperm banks must follow, it's no surprise supply can't keep up with demand.

So, naturally, people are finding other ways of obtaining some baby goo.

Facebook. (There's a Zuckerberg pun to make here, but it's almost too obvious.)

Unlike sperm bank donors, Facebook (and other apps) donors can give the potential parents their names, adult pictures, and talk to them directly. Not to mention the layers of red tape seekers skip when they cut out the middle man (joke unintentional, yet recognized).

In case you're thinking, "wow, I don't sperm to my socks all the time anyway! I should make some money for it." don't bother. Most men are doing this completely free.

And charging people who can't conceive on their own but desperately want a family?

Well that makes you a jerk off.
