KROQ Presents Depeche Mode At The Troubadour

Not going to lie, yesterday was a tough one. All celebrity deaths are sad but yesterday we lost 3 amazing talents.

First we learned of 'Field of Dreams' and 'Good Fellas' star Ray Liotta passing, then came the news of Yes drummer Alan White passing away at 72 after a short illness.

Just after I got off the air yesterday, I received the news that my friend, Depeche Mode keyboardist Andrew Fletcher had passed away at the age of 60. I was shocked.

On one of the tours my band Stabbing Westward did with Depeche Mode, I was hanging with Fletch on a night off in San Francisco. He sang me the melody to one of our songs "Waking Up Beside You" and said... "There, you've written one good song. Now go and write another." It meant so much that he knew the melody to one of our songs.

May they all rest in peace.

Depeche Mode might night fit for Rock 95-5 but I could toss in some Yes in honor of Alan White.

Also hit some AC/DC, Soundgarden, Deftones to get you ready for the show at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island tonight.

I always love playing Fastway's "Say What You Will". Dave King had the most amazing metal voice and now, he fronts Flogging Molly! Congrats to Gary who picked up tickets to the show at the Aragon on June 17th!

And closed out the Setlist with a suggestion from Head Roadie Dr. of Dance. Since we're heading into Memorial Day weekend, "See You On The Other Side" from Ozzy seemed like a good suggestion to pay tribute to those who made the sacrifice for all of us in this country. We thank you. We will never forget. Rest in peace.

Have a great weekend!

-Walt
