Chicago’s DMV Glow-Up: Bigger, Faster, and Smarter

A brand-new, two-story Secretary of State facility is opening in the Chicago Loop, bringing major upgrades to the DMV experience. Located at 125 W. Monroe St., this flagship center is designed to make trips to the DMV faster and more efficient.

According to a press release, the new office will feature cross-trained employees who can handle multiple services at one counter. It will also introduce a "fast-line kiosk" for quick transactions. The facility will consolidate services from multiple departments, including Business, Index, Personal, Administrative Hearings, and Reinstatements.

This new location replaces the Chicago Central DMV at 160 N. LaSalle St., expanding to 24,000 square feet—nearly five times larger. Officials say the extra space will improve customer service.

The official unveiling happens Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.
