United Center Development Has Been Approved By The City

The City Council approved of a $7 billion redevelopment plan for United Center and the surrounding area. The project, called the 1901 Project, will aim to foster the community and enhance the West Side's economic and cultural fabric. 55 acres will transform into a huge campus filled with hotels, retail, green space, music venues, and affordable housing.

Construction is set to begin in spring and take 10 to 15 years to complete. However, the first part of the project is scheduled to complete in 2028. This will include a hotel with 233 rooms, a retail space, two different parking structures, and a 6,000 seat music hall.

Bulls President and CEO, Michael Reinsdorf spoke about the plans in October. "It's a chance for our ownership groups to create something more than just going to the United Center for a game. It's a chance to transform the neighborhood. It's not an entertainment district. It's going to be something dynamic, something in the West Side that they haven't had in a long time."
