This is just a small taste of the show overall, the bits and bobs that I found interesting, funny, insightful and relevant. To hear everything that happened, check out the podcast of today's show. However, if you're looking for a quick read along with random self inserts and my personal thoughts, you've come to the right place.
Call in Point:
(This is the broadstroke canvas on which I base my call, obviously these notes are going to be longer and more detailed)
Ah Thursday, a day before the weekend arrives (or for us, the last day of the week as Angi is in Vegas tomorrow for the iHeart festival.) Anyway, to get herself all pumped up for her flight (which in itself is many people's phobias,) Angi was scrolling through the socials and came upon a hilariously absurd video. In it, a woman is showcased as having an irrational fear of Michael Jackson (funny, one would think it was her kids that would be affected.) Anyway, she's so afraid of him that even a picture of him terrifies her. So, with that thought it mind, it's no surprise that when a Michael Jackson impersonator shows up at a bar, she starts to lose her mind. This got Angi pondering though, do any of the roadies have a weird phobia? By weird we're looking for things like cotton balls, pickles or animatronics (shout out to the legendary Trixie Mattel.) For Angi, her irrational fear is bridges and she always drives over them with the windows rolled down assuming that at any moment, it will collapse and send her plummeting into the water. We didn't get any from Abe so I had to get a bit creative and dig deep on my call (which you can hear on our podcast!) With this tackled, we picked up the Request Line one last time for the week to see what else fell into this topic. Roadie Paula is afraid of cutting her finger nails. This stemmed from her mom cutting her nails too deep as a child and now the trauma transferred to adulthood. To bypass this fear, her boyfriend tries to cut them while she is sleeping because a manicure is totally off the table. Kelly is afraid of people with no teeth and when her daughters fell out, she was too afraid to even put them under her pillow. Kyle is afraid of getting out of the shower and stepping on the tile without a towel on them. It's the dirty floor covered in hair, used syringes and dust mites. Sheamus is terrified of cottage cheese because it's so wet and lumpy. Kevin is afraid of crowds and just likes to avoid them (this is a great idea and Kevin is a man of honor.) David has trypophobia which is a fear of small holes/bumps and manifests itself in all sorts of internet pictures of flowers and hands covered in them. If you are looking for more roadie comments or have your own, hit up our socials (FB group, Twitter, Instagram) and read up or drop us a comment.
Other Stuff from Today's Show:
After going on about how much he loves his disgusting liquid cheese and nachos (which Abe willed to life in the iHeart kitchen,) we took a look at another form of love that exists in his life. He and Cathy Tropicana have been together for seven years now so Angi, who is married to the incredible head of boxing Twitter Jay the Straight, decided to see if there's any relationship killers looming for them. I mean, she spent the morning looking for a divorce lawyer because she's so over boxing Twitter but this isn't about her. As for the killers, this is stuff you can overlook when you're three months in but once you hit the six months to a year, they start making their presence known.
* Netflix Incompatibility: You two have different interests in shows and one or both of you will watch shows you're currently both watching just to get ahead. - No real issue here, Cathy hates everything that Abe watches.
* Being Bad at Sharing: Everything falls into this including personal space, food and schedules. - Luckily for Abe, Cathy doesn't live with him but he would let her move in if she wanted to, however it's not on the agenda. After all, everyone doesn't need to live together.
* Missing Social Cues: One hates people, the other doesn't, etc. - Luckily, both of them are good social people.
* Food Incompatibility: Can't agree on what to eat. - Cathy eats super healthy and will eat like dandelions all week but deviat here and there for a cheat meal. You can see how Abe eats pretty much every day on our "On The Day" post (aka he's disgusting.)
The final takeaway was that Abe is in a good place as he never sees his girlfriend, she's never in The Ivory Tower and they never watch TV together.
Since we're on the relationship train today, let's take a look at weddings for a moment. Better yet, let's explore a Reddit thread that shamed people for playing these songs at their wedding. We can overlook The Chicken Dance and the Cha Cha Slide (don't do either of them by the way,) but these are the biggest offenders.
"I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas: Angi hates this song and agrees whereas Abe is on board with it.
"Happy" by Pharell: Another song Angi hates, considers it the worst of his career even. Abe is also on board with this.
"Single Ladies" by Beyoncé: Angi wants you to stop bringing out your single friends to this and furthermore, stop throwing the stupid boquet.
"I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston: Hey idiots, this is a breakup song.
"YMCA" by Village People: This is Abe's Uncle Rick's song that he is always forced to dance to.
"Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day: It's called "Good Riddance" in the title for a reason.
"Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle and "Daughters" by John Mayer: Angi added these as her personal choices because it makes her disgusted and think you have a weird relationship.
Finally, if you can remember/finish the lyrics to these jingles, go get a colonoscopy: Oscar Mayer Bologna, Toys R' Us, Kit Kat, Folgers, Almond Joy/Mounds, Coca Cola, AT&T, Nair, Lucky Charms and Meow Mix. Obviously, this is more of a segment you need to hear to appreciate so go listen to the podcast of today's show and play along!
Request Wars 2.0:
Champion: Abe (Streak: 1)
Angi's (repping Ben) Song Choice: "I'll Never Let You Go" by Steelheart
Abe's (repping Brick) Song Choice: "Second Chance" by Shinedown
Smack Talk Recap:
Angi hasn't heard her song in like 30 years. Abe immediately explained that he thinks Brick is cooler than Ben. Angi wants the belt real bad for the long weekend. Brick apparently has a rubber band business and they were the original makers of the rubber band. In fact, the bags of rubber bands Abe would get when he delivered papers had Brick's logo on it. Apparently, Ben invented Post It notes adhesive.
Don't Kill Angi Weekly Recap:
Angi Is Heading to Vegas
Mon: Angi wanted to sell Jay the Straight's memorabilia for cash
Joe had Angi decide to bring Jay the Straight's signed Muhammad Ali original contract to Pawn Stars. Knowing that she would need money for hands of blackjack, she was ready to accept anything. Walking in, Angi was pleasantly surprised to find Rick and Chum Lee working the counter. She presented the contract and they decided to call in an expert. Even though the contract was worth a lot of money, Angi was asking $3,500 for it. The expert gave it a look over and said it was worth $2,500. After the expert left, Angi and Chum Lee began the negotiations. Chum Lee offered Angi $20, she countered with $50. After a little more back and forth, Chum Lee offered her $50. She doesn't like fighting so Angi ended up taking the money and left to go blow it as fast as possible. Outside the shop though, she ran into Jay the Straight who realized what she had done. He was absolutely furious that Angi sold his prized possession and he revealed a Wyatt Earp revolver. Before she could say anything, he shot her once but knowing horror movies, pulled the trigger once more to finish the job. (Dead)
Tue: Angi was looking for someone to go play blackjack with
Jesus had Angi decide to go play blackjack with Avril Lavigne. The pair skipped out on the iHeart show and headed to the casino for some degenerate gambling. It seemed like things would be great as they sat at the table chopping it up. Downing drinks and placing bets, it was a great time overall. However, for reasons no one seemed to know, Angi was playing terribly. It started small with things like asking for a hit on 20 but as the night progressed, she got worse. Avril's calm demeanor soured seeing this unfold and she became enraged at Angi for sucking so bad. Over it, she reached into her coat pocket and pulled out Jay the Straight's Wyatt Earp revolver that he had sold to Pawn Stars after he killed Angi with it the day before. Avril stood up and shot Angi once, sending her flying off her stool. It was the advice of original gun owner roadie Steve that made her remember to "shoot twice." Avril pulled the trigger again and ended Angi with a headshot. (Dead)
Wed: Angi wanted to try out a new casino game
Michael had Angi decide to try the Terminator 2 slot machine. After getting several drinks lined up, Angi sat down at the machine and gave the arm a mighty crank. As the wheels spun and the lights blinked, the T-1000 stepped out from behind the machine. Before Angi even had a chance to respond, the T-1000 pulled out Wyatt Earp's guitar and for some reason, it was filled with bullets. The T-1000 blasted Angi off her stool with a shot and sent her onto the dirty carpet below her. The T-1000 realized that a guitar shooting bullets made no sense so instead it reached inside itself and pulled out Wyatt Earp's revolver that Jay the Straight had sold to Pawn Stars that was then bought by Avril Lavigne, who apparently ditched the gun after she killed Angi with it. The T-1000 used the revolver to shoot Angi once again but knowing that in the third part of the trilogy, two is never enough, put a third bullet in her to make sure she was extra dead. (Dead)
Thur: Angi wanted to go to an all male revue show
Eli had Angi decide to go see the "Chip 'n' Dales" (thanks Abe for that spelling of it) show. Once she walked in, all the attention suddenly seems to be turned on her. The host, Chip, was absolutely mesmerized by her beauty (and how a woman that drunk could still stand up straight.) He was so into her that he even invited her to come dance on the stage. Within a moment, she was off the floor and onto the stage. Loving all the attention from the crowd, Angi pointed to the DJ and told him to "hit it." The song "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy came on and Angi started doing her best Chris Farley impression (from the classic SNL skit.) The crowd was really loving it and went absolutely bonkers when she squatted down and picked up a dollar bill with her (wait, children read this!) Even more impressive though was the guy in the back smoking a cigar who saw her star power and offered her a 5 year contract with the traveling show. (Alive)
Fri: Angi was living it up in Vegas
After a week of wanting to go Vegas and gamble away her paycheck, Jay the Straight's fortune and anything else that can be turned into chips, Angi is finally in Vegas and will be spending the next four days turning tequila into bad decisions. (N/A)
