Way way back in the dark ages or rock and roll, before ACDC existed, there was a band out of Aldgate South Australia known as Fraternity who had a young vocalist fond of tank tops called Bon Scott. But before you go and jump down the rabbit hole hoping to fill your curiosity with some answers know this, sometimes a look at our favorite performers outside of the character they are best known for can be.. well.. a little disappointing. But for those who understand this, and would still enjoy a look into the legendary rock singers previous work, it is worth a listen.
Now, this was the dawn of the 70's, and many bands were having a hard time finding a lane. Some bands thought not having a lane... was their lane.. if that makes sense.. and Fraternity was probably more like those bands. Known for their eclectic execution of music styles, their work has been described as "proto-heavy metal to country and soft rock, progressive music and a nod here and there to the earlier psychedelic boom". Which might give you an idea of what to expect.
Fraternity recorded 2 albums, all of which are included in the 45 song 3 CD box set, including live cuts, session tapes, and a collaboration with Vince Lovegrove from Bon's previous band The Valentines.
Look, most ACDC fans might be a little disappointed to hear Bon try his hand at some weird country blues hybrid track. I get it. But as my friend Ron said, "It's still cool to hear his musical roots." Which is absolutely true.
Just remember, once you see Bon swinging back and forth in a tank top crooning out a southern fried cover of The Band's "Shape I'm In", there is no unseeing it.
