X chairman Elon Musk said the social media platform is still dealing with outages due to a "massive cyber attack" in an update shared on his account Monday (March 10).

"There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X," Musk wrote. "We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved."

The outages were initially reported at around 5:30 a.m. ET and peaked with about 57% of users unable to access their mobile app and 32% unable to use the website. Downdetector said there were still more than 27,000 reports received at around 11:22 a.m. ET.

Outages were reported to have decreased and spiked multiple times, showing an ongoing instability, with many users claimed to have had access restored closer to 11:00 a.m. ET, while incident reports for others surged to nearly 14,000 within minutes. X hasn't yet publicly acknowledged the outage or provided details on why it was caused, though several users shared their frustrations on other social media platforms.

X, then-Twitter, was purchased by Elon Musk as part of a $44 million buyout in April 2022, with his official takeover occurring in October 2022. The social media platform experienced several outages during the takeover, as well as in 2023 when the billionaire scaled down the platform's staff, hough reports have declined overall in recent years.
