It's been reported just today that earlier this year James Hetfield quietly filed for divorce from his wife, Francesca, according to this report from TMZ.
The two married on August 17th, 1997, and James often times credits his wife with helping him through battles with addiction and anger issues.
During a podcast interview in 2016, Hetfield shared he was kicked out of their home by Francesca which started him on the path of recovery.
He said, “What worked for me was seven weeks someplace, like basically tearing you down to bones, ripping your life apart, anything you thought about yourself or what it was, anything you thought you had, your family, your career, anything, gone. Strip you down to just, you’re born. Here’s how you were when you were born, you were okay, you were a good person, let’s get back to that again, then they slowly rebuild you."
With three adult children, it appears there is no ill will between the two, and both feel very close but it was time for a new chapter to begin for them both.
