The Biggest Job Applicant Mistake

According to Microsoft's head of recruiting, the biggest mistake job applicants make is blanket applications. Sending a ton of applications just to see if one of them hits.

Ok but... aren't we supposedly in a labor shortage? So how about we talk about the biggest mistake employers make: assuming they have the best job to offer.

There's a fine line between being an advocate for your company/team/whatever, and being arrogant. Put the salary in your posting. Put the benefits. Make the process easy so the applicant, who is just as important as you, isn't wasting their time.

It's odd to see companies complain about receiving so many applications during a "labor shortage."

It's almost like... there isn't one... and companies just don't want to pay people what they're worth, so they try and put it on us by saying, "no one wants to work."

Yeah. No one wants to work. Why would we? It's work. This isn't a new concept. Make your job one we want to work for. Start at money. See if that helps.
