1932 - Amelia Earhart became the first woman to make a non-stop flight across the U.S. She flew from Los Angeles to Newark, New Jersey, in 19 hours and five minutes.

1973 - Dave Chappelle is born. He turns 48 today. 

1989, Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti banned Cincinnati Reds legend and manager Pete Rose from the game for gambling. Tragically, that lifetime ban is still keeping Pete out of the Hall of Fame.
