Angi Taylor Show Recap with Jay the Gay - 4-29-2021

This is a small taste of the show overall, the bits and bobs that I found interesting and funny, insightful and relevant. To hear everything that happened, check out the podcast version of the show. If you want a quick read along with random self inserts and my personal thoughts, you've come to the right place.

Call in Point:

(This is the broadstroke canvas on which I base my call, obviously these notes are going to be longer and more detailed.)

As you all know, us gays love to dish, spill the tea and gossip because we're bad people. Well, it turns out that 14% of all our conversations every single day are gossip. The thing is, this is not all bad but instead just our normal way of going about things now. Gossip it seems is less about smack talk and more about exchanging information, in a bonding type of way. This led, of course, to dishing from the king and queens of gossip and smack talk Abe and Angi. They alerted the listeners to the fact that during most (all) song breaks when they are off air, the two basically sit in their text threads and talk to each other and spill all the hot tea. There's a problem though, Abe doesn't have a thread where he can smack talk Angi because he doesn't know anyone in the building. Angi, always resourceful, has a list of referrals that he can jump on to use as a stepping stone to creating a smack talk thread. Keep in mind though, she is extremely territorial so I feel like all of this might just be some type of ruse. If not, expect bodies to start piling up when Abe gets too friendly with the locals. Abe went on to wonder if anyone has ever said anything about him and according to Angi, the only person who tip toed around things were resident station gay Jason Brown (I'm secondary because he was there before me.) He had been curious as to whether or not Abe's girlfriend Cathy Glass was real (she is, as much as we joke.) However, Abe could overlook all this because Jason Brown thinks that Abe looks good. However, Abe has also seen some of the other guys Jason Brown thought looked good and that sank the endorsement some. I mean, come on now, the image of Abe, with his big barrel chest, eating mayo shirtless on the couch. People wonder why I've been asking for a calendar of nothing but that as part of the merch rollout plan. Anyway, this maelstrom of mess was capped off by Angi explaining that someone once told her she looks like Kate Winslet. Abe didn't really see a problem with this but Angi was relentless. This was a capital offense and she honestly seems to never have recovered from hearing it.

All the Rest:

Today's first real discussion was more of a cautionary warning than anything else honestly. It began with Angi asking Abe if he was a fan of Taco Bell. "It's okay," was his bounce back, the topic staying innocent enough as Angi explained why she asked. It seems Taco Bell is doing a promotion that has them giving away a free crunchy taco to celebrate the taco moon. Abe explained that he refuses to ever wait in line for a single free item (if it was a bag of Whoppers or something, he'd camp overnight imo.) The only thing he or Angi would ever wait for is a free slurpee from 7-11. This is where things turned, from light hearted banter to me feeling a bit of anxiety as they started discussing clutter. Personally, I hate it and for the most part I try to clamp down on it but sometimes things accumulate. Anyway, Angi and Abe began to dissect how much people love free stuff. Angi talked about how people will fight each other for a free radio station key chain like it's Black Friday. Zen master Abe Kando slid in next with a revelation, he is a minimalist now. He is over having trash or knick knacks, the Ivory Tower will not be sullied with such things. He's decided that having too much stuff makes you sad and so he's going on a purge (not the kind that involves killing people yet, soon though probably.) Angi added in her own disgust and bother which is open shelving. She doesn't like bookcases and kitchen cabinets with glass on them. It bothers her to see the inner workings of a cabinet which led Abe to discuss a Paul Stanley live stream where he saw his Cheerios in a glass cabinet. This made them both go bonkers and also took aim at curio cabinets filled with Precious Moment figures. Back to Abe manscaping his life, he explained how he is getting rid of everything. Young twink and Head Roadie of People Who Still Listen to CD's Dennis is getting all of Abe's CD's (I boxed mine away and threw them in my parents attic ages ago.) Angi was curious as to what is going to happen to all of Abe Kando's neon beer signs (and I'm wondering what will become of that 8 foot tall cutout of John Stamos.) Abe even detailed a trip to the thrift store he took recently where he unloaded boxes of junk that he didn't want or need anymore. Angi mentioned street markets and garage sales but Abe was not having anything to do with those outdoor clutter fests. The only thing Abe wants to find at a garage sale is gold coins. Seriously though, if I didn't push the point enough, these two absolutely hate clutter. If anyone needs me, I'll be walking around my apartment looking to throw things out. (Seriously though, I tend to pick a couple months a year where I throw out one thing a day each day regardless.)

Hot sexy mama and summer time queen Angi has been curating a new playlist to welcome the return of summer. Sitting out on her patio in probably jorts and a tank top (no bra obviously,) on that hot day we had this week, Angi created the Trailer Park Jamz playlist. The thing is, every good playlist is always made better by suggestions and so she was seeking some. Some of the bands she already has on there include Night Ranger, Slaughter, Ratt, Toto and Heart. This led to a story about how Angi's block once had one of those block party things where they had a band and this particular band practiced and soundchecked to "Hold the Line" over 800 times. Anyway, Angi needs suggestions and of course Abe had two. "Sweet Home Alabama" because obviously and of course "Forever" by Jesse and the Rippers because anyone with half a brain cell knew that was coming. Angi, in also expected fashion, lost it and yelled about how hearing Jesse and the Rippers makes her want to jump off a bridge (and this explains why Abe can't get them on the playlist.) She also offered a threat, if you call and suggest Jesse and the Rippers, she'll hang up on you. There were plenty of contributions to the list so let's dig in, shall we. Andrew suggested "Roxanne" by The Police. Todd thinks "18 and Life" by Skid Row is a must. Before we continued (again as usual) Abe pondered if all the boys in Angi's trailer park had BB guns. Angi sort of swatted away that nonsense but did tell that her mother used to go and lay outside topless because she's "European." Back to the music, Head Roadie Bill said "Round and Round" by Ratt is a must. Angelo said "On the Loose" by Saga is essential. Rick, he thinks she needs "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent (she doesn't imo.) Rob said "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner. Brad had a great one in "Legs" by ZZ Top. Tara suggested "Fantasy" by Alvin Nova. She also added that she finds Angi to be amazing and has been following her career for a while. Hitting the Twitter feed, we had a handful of suggestions. Head Roadie Jim needs "Renegade" by Styx on the list. Head Roadie Shannon said "Cherry Pie" by Warrant and "Hurt So Good" by John Cougar Mellencamp. Zack said "Ramblin' Man" by The Allman Brothers Band. Shoshan said "Paradise City" by Guns N' Roses. Over in the Facebook group, Chelsea needed "Cum on Feel the Noize" by Quiet Riot. Paul added "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy. Zach tossed in "Cowboy" by Kid Rock. Lastly, Robert capped this massive list off with the entireFool for the Cityalbum by Foghat.

Finally, noted lothario (and apparently guitar player) is getting his own talk show on garbage streaming service Paramount Plus. The show is said to be inspired by the incredible Later with Jools Holland show, a British TV staple for many years. The way the show is structured is 5-6 bands are brought in a type of circle and each will play two songs before it's over and there is a small bit where a guest is also interviewed. I've been a fan of this show for a very long time so I have no faith that it won't get completely butchered. Enough about me though, Angi's attention was on Mayer playing host which she thinks he'll do well. She finds him very funny and charming and Abe thinks he's a great guitar player. He even does a mean Prince guitar playing impression, Angi admitted (without letting us know just yet why she likes him so much.) After discussing his breakthrough album "Room for Squares," which Abe didn't know, Angi discussed how "Your Body Is a Wonderland" was written about Jennifer Love Hugetits. With this came a shocking revelation. Angi once interviewed John Mayer and they ended up taking pictures of themselves doing pretend ballet. After the picture session, Angi was offered a sex session with Mayer but she turned it down because she had a boyfriend at the time (which ironically was the worst boyfriend she's ever had.) He was seriously a scumbag, jobber, loser a-hole piece of trash. This douche was actually cheating on her so banging John Mayer would have made total sense. Anyway, at some point this loser's side piece discovered Angi through a sweater he bought for both of them. It turns out he was doubling down the same gifts for both of them which led them to compare notes. The side piece ended up dumping the dude, Angi stuck it out a few months more but also ditched that dumpster fire. Abe in turn, told a story about a guy named Big Dave from his Walmart days who was dating two girls who had tattoos of his name on their arm. They both worked at the Walmart as well just in different sections. As we closed this story, Angi admitted she regretted not banging John Mayer but not that she didn't bang Mick Mars.
