2003 - On this day in Chicago history, In the early hours of the morning, city bulldozers rolled onto Meigs and carved huge X marks onto the runway. Now planes could not land or take off. Mayor Daley shut down the airport without telling anyone. The FAA fined the city $33,000 for closing Meigs without sufficient notice.
