Angi Taylor Show Recap with Jay the Gay - 3-30-2021

This is a small taste of the show overall, the bits and bobs that I found interesting and funny, insightful and relevant. To hear everything that happened, check out the podcast version of the show. If you want a quick read along with random self inserts and my personal thoughts, you've come to the right place.

Call in Point:

(This is the broadstroke canvas on which I base my call, obviously these notes are going to be longer and more detailed.)

Going to the movies is something we probably won't feel comfortable doing for quite some time but that doesn't mean the bingeing needs to stop. There is some guy who entered the Guinness Book of World Records for seeingAvengers: Endgame191 times at a theater in 90 days. This completely useless goal inspired Angi's question of the day. Is there a movie that you've seen so many times that it borders on ridiculous. Abe actually has several of these, the first beingSwingerswhich he has seen at least 500 times. Toss inCasino,Goodfellas,The Warriors,Blood In Blood Outand probablyLa Bambaas well. Angi is in the same boat as Abe, seeingCasino,GoodfellasandSwingersan excessive amount of times. Her thing is she will see a movie on and just indulge in it when she does, much to the chagrin of Jay the Straight who can't stand her rewatching. Turning to the roadies, we got an interesting mixed bag of movies to choose from. Pam has seenCarsa ton, without kids mind you, she just happens to love it. Angi has also seenCarsa ton since she had a daughter who loved it as a kid. Abe, who probably has never seen it because Matthew McCoughnhey isn't in it, made fun of them for liking it. Head Roadie Bill has seenDazed and Confusedso many times ... alright, alright, alright. Ryan has seenThe Sandlotat least a million times and has passed it down to his kids. He feels like it is a timeless movie. Andrew saidReal Steel, a garbage can of a flick that he loves, caused Angi and Abe to blankly stare at each other as he explained it. Head Roadie Mama Kanan saidMasters of the Universe, since her children watched it so much when they were kids. Head Roadie Tony has seenThe Breakfast Clubat least 500+ times. Todd has seenPulp FictionandNational Lampoon's Christmas Vacationa ton as well. Over on Facebook, Robert has seenMaximum Overdriveso many times, as a combination of great soundtrack and comfort food viewing. Rosemarie has seenDazed and ConfusedandThe Lost Boysat least 200+ times. Robyn has seenQueen of the DamnedandThe Notebooka ton. As for me, as I mentioned in my call, I've seenThe Rocky Horror Picture Showat least 900 times. It's my favorite movie and I used to watch it almost every day after school in high school. Abe basically thinks I've wasted my life and I'm not gonna disagree with him.

All the Rest:

Yesterday was a typical day for Angi and she spent it doing what she does every day that ends in the word day. If you guessed I was referring to her laying on her back, drinking a bottle of wine and playing blackjack, well congrats. As the winner of today's guessing challenge, I will be awarding you 15 million dollars from Angi's fake blackjack app. Speaking of drinking, Angi told a story about 3 brothers who died after buying 5 liters of hand sanitizer and drinking half of it. Since India is on lockdown, liquor wasn't being sold so these Darwin nominees did the next best thing. The screwed up thing is they started on a Sunday, felt awful and continued on into Monday before each succumbed to poisoning from drinking that crap. Angi reiterated a message of common sense, don't drink hand sanitizer and don't eat Tide pods. Well, at least I didn't eat the pods....

Does Abe have difficulty taking direction from his girlfriend while driving was another thing that Angi pondered today. This was provoked by BMW having to recall their vehicles in Germany in the 90's because the men there did not want to take directions from their voice assistant, who was a woman. Funny story, I got lost driving once with my father on the way to a friend's house. I called her to get an idea where we missed a turn but he wouldn't listen to her and I had to have a male friend explain where we went wrong. Ah men and their stupid idiotic egos. Anyway, getting back to the point, Abe has no issue with it. In fact, his car GPS is an Australian woman's voice. Plus if there really was a problem they can use Waze which gives you a chance to customize the voice used. Angi went on to explain Jay the Straight once had a slutty voice assistant in his car and now he doesn't (probably because Angi killed it and the actual voice actress.)

Here's a good one, does what you drink on a first date really matter? Well, if it's hand sanitizer than yes but that's a different story. 68% of women and 32% of men say that a bad drink order would cause the end of a date (which is incredibly dumb but to each their own.) So what should women be drinking to impress men. Well this survey, which was apparently taken in the fifties, gave an overall list. A martini, gin and tonic, manhattan, old fashioned and a cosmo or whisky sour all scored high marks. You know what is a red flag, a long island iced tea which basically says "I'm going to throw up in your lap before you finish." Angi agrees with the long island, saying that you're basically a mess when you have one (because it's every drink at the bar and a teeny bit of hand sanitizer so it makes sense.) She then told the story of how Jay the Straight once went out with a girl and they stopped at a Starbucks. For the sake of Abe's narrative, they went on the date there. She ended up ordering a frab mocha super caramel drizzled sugar bomb rotting inside a glass of sugar and that alone was enough for him. He never called her again after he saw her pollute her body like that (and yet her married Angi....)

Finally, as he does every Tuesday, everyone's favorite drunk Big Cat checked in. Also checking in was Matt and some other guy at the bar Richies, where Angi and Abe requested he call from this week. The crowd was far from ruckus and so the consumption list at the time of call in was read. 3 Jäger shots and 4 Budweisers so far, all on his goal toward working to be comatose today. God bless him, he's my favorite caller, hands down.

Request Wars:

Current Champion: Rachel (3x)

Challenger Song Choice: "Sweet Emotion"

Champion Song Choice: "Hail to the King"

Observation: I made a point about reheated food the other day and today was that soggy, cold middle of your tired meal. This was basically a no contest which is good for Rachel because she is crashing hard and fast with each day.

Winner: Rachel

8 o' Clock Call Out:

(Since I'm not going to pad these notes with like 10+ different call outs each day, I will pick a handful that I felt were really good and post those. To hear all of the call outs, check out the podcast of today's show.)

Allison called out a student (she's a piano teacher) who cancels all the time when she's inbound.

Head Roadie Angry Bob called out the customer service reps of his cable TV company.

Angi called out amazing doctors for dealing with the pandemic.

Rick called out Steve the garbage contractor for making him and his girlfriend's life hell.

Lumberjack Dave called out Angi and Abe for being the best damn radio station in Chicago.

10 o' Clock Toast:

Conrad Cooper. Who got a three year contract extension at Rock 95.5, even Angi doesn't have that.

Show Quotes and Tidbits:

Quote: "You should die if you drink hand sanitizer." - Abe

Quote: "I don't wanna see a nine year old girl wearing basically no bottoms." - Abe

Quote: "Target ruins everything, with their AC/DC shirts." - Abe

Quote: "Does he pay you in meatballs?" - Abe

Angi Protip: If you lay on your back and drink wine all day, you'll end up with heartburn.
