Just when we're all starving for live music to return to the city, we get the fantastic news of a new concert venue coming to the Goose Island area. The soon-to-be converted Morton Salt warehouse will become another live music venue that will also create 50 permanent jobs.
Project developers got City Council approval of the required zoning change Friday needed to convert the factory at 1357 N. Elston Ave into a mixed-use office space and concert venue.
And to keep that "salty flavor" of the historic building, developers are also planning to keep the factory's classic sign, which shows a girl in a yellow raincoat holding an umbrella.
Ald. Walter Burnett (27th), has said he was happy the project would retain the sign, which “most of us have known for all of our lives.”
