Cubs Game Ties for 4th-Coldest in Wrigley History

Cubs fans, you’re built different. Thousands bundled up and packed Wrigley Field Monday night to watch the Cubs take on the Rangers—and they made history doing it.

With a game-time temperature of just 34 degrees, the matchup tied for the fourth-coldest game ever at Wrigley, per Baseball Reference’s Stathead tool.

The last time it was this cold at Wrigley?

April 2011 vs. the Padres.

For context, the coldest Wrigley game ever was in 1997 when the Cubs faced the Marlins in a bone-chilling 29-degree showdown. And yes, that game was part of a 14-game losing streak. Yikes.

Monday’s chill even beat out the NHL’s Winter Classic at Wrigley. Hockey lost to baseball in the cold war.

Still, the Cubs fans showed up in layers and loyalty. Now that’s dedication.
