I can totally see Joni Mitchell paying tribute to Elton John, but Metallica?
Yep. The mighty Metallica took part as the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize was awarded to Elton John and his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin.
I love how Metallica didn't wimp out either. They didn't go acoustic... no, they plugged in and cranked up Metallica versions of "Funeral For a Friend" and "Love Lies Bleeding".
Kirk even had a wah pedal to help him wail on the solo!
The whole event aired on PBS last night!
