I know I am not the only one looking to save money on gas. More to the point getting more out of gas that I do buy. Here are a few tips as I think we will be dealing with these higher gas prices for the near future.
Just Don't Drive
This one might be a little too obvious but it is practical. I know I find myself driving just to get out, but now I think twice before I go for a joy ride. There is nothing better than having the windows down, blasting Rock 95.5, but that can be done at home with the windows open as the weather looks to get better. This can also be done on a walk or bike ride.
Public Transportation
We have a great public transportation system here is Chicago. Take advantage of the great options between the bus and the train. I know I enjoy decompressing with iHeartRadio on the train home after work. I don't have to worry about driving as I let someone else do that for me. Use CTA and Metra for all they have to offer.
Car Pooling
Yes, you will still be using gas, but at least you have some people to help you pay for the trip. I will say get that money up front so your forgetful friends don't leave you hanging when it is time to pay up.
Loyalty Programs
This one has worked well for me lately. Buying groceries at Jewel has turned into savings at the pump. It is as easy as entering your phone number before each purchase. Another asset is to look into what rewards you are getting from your credit cards. I was able to save 50 cents getting gas with a rewards program that I didn't know I had. I will be using it more often. Double check on savings you might be missing on your end.
