Angi Taylor Show Recap with Jay the Gay - 2-3-2021

This is a small taste of the show overall, the bits and bobs that I found interesting and funny, insightful and relevant. To hear everything that happened, check out the podcast version of the show. If you want a quick read along with random self inserts and my personal thoughts, you've come to the right place.

Call in Points:

(This is the broadstroke canvas on which I base my call, obviously these notes are going to be longer and more detailed.)

It's Wednesday and there's usually a reason to look forward to hump day because it's one step closer to the weekend. With the upcoming weather nightmare though of snow/rain/wind tomorrow and -25/-30 temps this weekend, I don't think there's anything to look forward to anymore.

Let's begin with an easy one today, what was your first concert. This topic has been covered before but it felt relevant today because there were a lot of music based topics. I'm assuming that Angi is finally starting to lose it since she misses concerts so much. Abe's first show was Aerosmith. Angi, on the other hand, saw Gloria Estefan and The Miami Sound Machine. If it counts, she also saw REO Speedwagon that weekend as well. Angi's daughter, she got to see Katy Perry. The roadies checked in to drop some of theirs and there were a few really great ones. Art saw Rammstein. John saw Metallica. Cliff got to see Van Halen after their second album had come out at the Scaragon Brawlroom. Rick saw The Who and Lynyrd Skynyrd opened up for them in 1974. Eric saw Slayer. Todd saw Ozzy. For me, it was Nine Inch Nails at the Allstate when I was 13 and they were first out promotingThe Downward Spiral.

On today's edition of Roadie Roundtable, roadie Eric has been dating a girl for a month. Big shock incoming, it turns out that she is a complete psycho. Like she goes and flies off the handle all the time and is apparently fond of screaming at people. She's basically a Karen on PED's. He also came to find out that her last relationship ended poorly (I'm assuming the ex is dead or in hiding.) Eric already knows that he needs to dump her but he's afraid of how she's going to react when he drops that bombshell. The question posed to the roadies, how should he go about dumping her? Mandy suggested that he do it over the phone and once the deed was done, he needs to block her number and block her on all socials. Kevin's suggestion was that he get a Ring doorbell, so in case she pulls a stunt when he gives her the scrape, he has a way to showcase anything she does (if she does.) Karen called in to talk about her brother who had a psycho ex, who started his truck on fire one night. When the police were summoned, they blamed her brother for the fire. Speaking from personal experience, I'm not fond of the police but they can be useful in certain situations and should be used. Good luck Eric, hopefully you're not murdered.

Finally, Angi presented a list of things that rich people couldn't possibly understand. As someone who grew up, much like Angi and Abe, sorely middle class, I felt seen on plenty of these. Paper plates, mismatched towels, mismatched glasses or owning novelty glasses. Abe was in that boat on that one, I currently have nice glasses and plenty of novelty ones as well. Containers with Tupperware (my roommate would be lost without Tupperware,) hamburgers being served on sliced bread (which lead to a story about how Angi wasn't allowed McDonald's when she was a kid.) An Abe and Angi one came next, plastic shopping bags that you use as trash bags. A junk drawer (I mean seriously, I could never imagine not having a junk drawer.) Weapons hidden in an easy place (this to me as weird and skewers more trash than poor imo.)

Request Wars:

Current Champion: Mario (5x)

Challenger Song Choice: "One"

Champion Song Choice: "Nobody's Fool"

Observation: Fun Fact: Metallica is making their 3rd appearance on Request Wars. This doesn't matter because Rob's smacktalk was cringe and bad. Mario literally stomped him, like a turtle (vomit.) All hail our king Mario, for he ruled today.

Winner: Mario

Other Topics:

The morning started with a discussion on the latest epidemic to plague the city. No not covid, that's a lingering threat, what I'm talking about is carjacking. There was a guy who was shoveling out a spot for himself and he was carjacked while doing it. Abe suggested we need Batman to show up in the city to help clean up crime. Angi told a story of a friend who was carjacked while scraping ice off their windshield. Abe went on to tell a story of a video he saw that had 2 guys trying to carjack a guy who ended up hitting both of them with his car. Angi, the voice of reason, basically said give up your car and don't fight back. The point almost ended with Batman again showing up to save the person being carjacked. Instead, Angi went on to discuss her love of thugs with a heart and then took herself down the road of childhood trauma. Abe, once again, brought up yet another of his crushes, Mark fromRoseanne. Anyway, getting serious for a second, it's really sad that we are suffering insane amounts of carjackings while there is a pandemic occurring, it's ridiculous.

So, a bunch of moronic idiots fell for a prank because they felt the need to feel super important. A company said you could get a verified checkmark on your home if you're an influencer, public figure or represented brand. It started as a joke but instead, they got 495 applicants. Some people loved it and they really wanted them. Abe viewed it as a roadmark for robbers basically, which imo is great because screw these dopes. The discussion turned to talk of creating an invention, which Abe felt they needed to create something so they could become rich. Abe then mentioned that he has a lot of ideas but he has no idea how to go about creating them. He explained that one of his ideas, Clean Bathrooms, has already been implemented but his idea is much better. I felt a need to make a point of this because in the many years I have collaborated with Abe, I have a literal 3 to 4 page list of Abe's Business Ideas (I'm not kidding btw.)

Lastly, as today seemed to be the music day, there's a double topic combine here because alone they just couldn't work. So, who's the biggest artist you've seen in a small venue? Angi saw Prince at House of Blues here in Chicago. Abe, on the other hand, has a multitude of shows for this list. Guns N' Roses (garbage version) at The Metro. Foo Fighters at The Metro, Green Day at The Vic. Cliff, as mentioned early, saw Van Halen at the Scaragon Brawlroom. The greatest imo though was Tami who saw Nirvana at The Metro. Angi also began a list of guest's she'd like in the studio when covid is officially done (that's right, it's still not done despite what you've heard.) The first was Billy Corgan, so they could discuss the insane amount of stuff he has coming up. As usual, after that small discussion, the conversation tapered off and we didn't get to see the rest of her desired guests.

10 o' Clock Toast:

Maria Palmer. Angi's radio sister, rock sister and most importantly, she just moved into Angi's neighborhood. Abe said that she's super young (this might have been shade, if it wasn't, it came off like it was.)
